The trip to Kakum National Park, walking the canopy bridges, and seeing the breathtaking landscapes were unforgettable. I want to thank Passport Proud for curating this trip. It has been an incredible experience, and I am truly grateful. As a Haitian woman, this journey holds deep meaning for me. If you know Haiti’s history, you understand that we were the first Black republic to gain independence. Being here, learning more about our shared history, and taking in everything—especially the significance of the Cape Coast—has been overwhelming in the best way. It was a lot to process, but it was also powerful. I am proud. I am happy. And I am truly thankful for this experience.

I never imagined I would have the opportunity to visit Africa, so I also have to thank my sister—she may have forced me to come, but I’m truly grateful she did. In the U.S., it’s easy to feel disconnected from your roots, especially with the challenges of racism and everything that comes with it. But here, it feels different.
